INTRODUCTION

What began as a small pub crawl event in 2012, has grown into one of the largest Halloween events in the city of San Francisco. Crawloween, otherwise known as the San Francisco Halloween Pub Crawl, draws more than 8,000 people over 3 days and takes place at over 20 bars in Polk Gulch, Nob Hill, Russian Hill, Cow Hollow and The Marina. The event is produced by CrawlSF, a local events company located in the Marina District.

ABOUT CRAWLSF

CrawlSF was formed in 2003 by Matt Seliga, a transplant from Pennsylvania, who had just moved to San Francisco for a biotech job. To help meet new people and earn some extra money, he wanted to re-create a concept that he had experienced on the East Coast. Matt organized the first pub crawl on Union Street and spent nights and weekends talking to people, handing out printed cards with event details and contacting bars to get them involved. After a successful first event, CrawlSF expanded to neighborhoods all across the city and began building a loyal following of pub crawlers from all over the Bay. In addition to pub crawls, CrawlSF has also produced New Year’s Eve events, theme parties, concerts, food events and a 2-day music festival. The company has been going strong for 19 years and in that time has produced over 200 events in San Francisco with an estimated 240,000 attendees. Despite the growth of the company and the huge number of attendees at each event, CrawlSF doesn’t have any employees. The entire business is run from start to finish by just Matt and his fiance Caitlin, expect for event staff and security hired for each event.

ABOUT MATT SELIGA

Although he always had interest in being an entrepreneur, Matt attended college with a Pre-Medicine Major. After school, he took a job Johns Hopkins Center for Inherited Disease Research as a DNA Analyst, while preparing to take the MCAT’s and start the grueling Medical School application procedure. However, after receiving a job offer at Applied Biosystems in Foster City (an offer too good to pass up), he put his Medical School dreams on hold and moved from Baltimore to San Francisco in early 2003. After a few months living in SF, Matt started working on the CrawlSF concept, After launch, he spent every waking hour going to bars, attending events and talking to everyone about his upcoming events. After a few slow years, the business started to take off and has continued to this day. Matt stayed in the biotech while the company was building, but eventually left it behind in 2008 when he began to work on his own projects full-time. Aside from CrawlSF, Matt is the co-founder of M Ride (transportation company), Eye Heart SF (Event Production Company) and the venture-funded Pinchit.com (daily deals startup).
